Storm Water Testing

What is stormwater?

Stormwater is the leftover water from rain or melting snow doesn’t soak into the ground. This usually occurs when soil is too saturated or when a large storm dumps a large amount of rain in a short period of time. Most stormwater runoff comes from impervious surfaces like rooftops, paved streets, highways, and parking lots. It flows over these surfaces, collects pollutants like oil, fertilizers, pesticides, soil, trash and animal manure and enters street drains before treatment is possible. This untreated stormwater then flows directly into lakes, streams, rivers and marine waters.

Stormwater runoff is a leading threat to our urban waters, streambeds, banks and habitat

Is stormwater testing required?

Most states have mandated stormwater testing, monitoring and remediation. The purpose of mandating regular stormwater testing is to identify, remove and reduce contaminants, pollutants, fertilizers and debris that previously flowed freely into surface waters (lakes, rivers, oceans) and groundwater.

Fredericktowne Labs can help with your storm water testing.

We provide sample containers for your specific testing requirements so you’re ready to collect samples in advance of the next rain event. We offer optional reporting services so your results go directly to the corresponding regulatory body.
